About Roots of Rhythm
At Guitar Shed, we’ve always believed music is bigger than lessons. It builds confidence, brings people together, strengthens neighborhoods, and gives students, artists, and families a place to belong. That belief has grown into a broader philanthropic mission through Roots of Rhythm Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to expand access to music education, support local artists, and celebrate Atlanta’s creative community.
Roots of Rhythm carries forward and expands many of the community-centered programs connected to Guitar Shed, including student scholarships, community music classes, performance opportunities, artist programs, and public events designed to make music more accessible to everyone. Through Roots of Rhythm, we are building a connected ecosystem of programs and events, including:
Music Scholarships - Helping students access high-quality music education regardless of financial barriers.
Community Music Classes - Bringing programs like Jaminals and other inclusive music experiences into schools, neighborhoods, and community spaces.
ShedFest - Our annual community music festival and benefit event, celebrating local artists, students, families, and Atlanta’s creative spirit.
Lanta Gras - A beloved Atlanta tradition rooted in music, neighborhood celebration, and community joy. As Lanta Gras becomes part of the Roots of Rhythm family, our goal is to honor its history while helping sustain and grow the event for years to come.
ATL Songs - A monthly songwriter series that gives local artists a place to share original music, connect with audiences, and build community around songwriting.
Songs From the Shed - An artist-focused performance and education series featuring songwriters, musicians, and roots-based artists sharing their songs, stories, and creative process.
Together, these programs reflect a simple idea: music should be accessible, participatory, and deeply connected to the community around it. Guitar Shed is proud to support Roots of Rhythm and help grow a more inclusive, creative, and musical Atlanta
